ALCAZ'

Alcaz. The story of a coming together. A man and a woman. A couple. A duo. A blending of simplicity, assurance, and freshness.

An introduction to the duo

Jean-Yves Lievaux, “harp of nerves,” became infected early on with French song and Rock, became familiar with performance on a grand scale with Lievaux-Transfo, where he also knew all about great expectations and the life that can eat you up.

A guy and a gal, then with vastly differing provenance, who have come together to recount love in its many forms, in a medley of accents and with some rather acid-like coaxing along. Purified and dense, poetic yet frivolous, grave and joyous, Alcaz’s repertory realizes its fullest potential through its distinctive, singular performance, which fashions arabesques created by two voices and two guitars within the magic of acoustics.

Lyrics and music, written and composed by each of the performers, get you laughing, have a calming effect, answer questions put by one or the other, strike a chord you didn’t know existed within you. Vyvian and Jean Yves create, somewhere between blues and the ballad, a Rock intimacy, a universal feeling of being included, and you say to yourself, “Why, I recognize that! That’s my story!”

Alcaz, in short, is a real presence on the stage. Experience and charisma are at the service here of a show in which a rapport is created with the other, that is, with the audience. A way of being which lends full meaning to the term “Living Performance.”

A group to listen to, a duo to see, a couple that creates mutual understanding.

The musicians

Vyvian Cayol

Following her training in acting at the Criée School at Marcel Maréchal, she spent time with a variety of professional theater companies, performed in several films and sang with several different groups.

She was involved in founding the musical theater company « Les Pétroleuses » (The Incendiaries). She performs and writes and composes musical numbers for their performances. The Incendiaries tour festivals throughout France, in the PACA region, perform within the framework of Season 13, as well as, of course, in theaters in Marseille

She formed her group (performing either as a trio or a quartet) « Chansons Jazzifantes » (Jazzy Songs), with whom she writes, composes and parodies jazz standards.

She went back to playing guitar and formed a new, more acoustical trio, with new compositions, new mucisians, and a new style : « Waltz-Rock and Tango-Jazz » (guitar, accordeon, bandoneon, trombone, and contrabass). In 2002, she met Jean-Yves Liévaux and formed Alcaz.

Jean-Yves Lievaux

At age 18, he signed his first contract with a major label (EMI France). Several albums and numerous tours were to follow. He then went to Quebec, where he recorded two landmark albums for the 1980s. In 1981 he wrote « C’est pas difficile » (It’s Not Difficult), a song written for a commercial.

In the ‘90s he recorded three solo albums. In 1999 he decided to settle in Marseille. Onstage alone with his guitar, he devised a new style of music called nomad rock. He self-produced an album called « 7 Step . » In 2001 he wrote, composed and performed solo in a musical theater production called « Encore une Crise » (Another Crisis). In 2002 he met Vivyan Cayol and formed Alcax.

A man and a woman, two voices and two guitars. Armfuls of happiness held out to the audience like bouquets to be gathered up; the latest from an artistic impulse and craftsmanlike recording that is feisty and inventive.

Telerama

It’s terrific”: By singing it out, they deprive us of ever getting down in the dumps.Let’s go even further: “It’s heavenly!”

Le Progrès de Lyon

This is a couple who really sing only love songs, in the lyrics and in their lives, with a freshness that makes you love it afresh and adopt it …”Alone at last” in their art, they embody a format of song that’s rare, almost non-existent.
